3 Days Desert Marrakech Tour from Fes
    Tour Details

The 3 Days Desert Marrakech Tour from Fes is the one-way crossing: no backtracking, no repeated roads, and the Sahara in the middle of it.

The first day runs south through the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, where camels take you into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a night in a Berber camp. The second turns west into the gorge country, with a walk in Todra and an overnight in the Dades Valley below its red cliffs.

The third crosses the kasbah trail through Skoura and Ouarzazate to Ait Ben Haddou, then climbs the Tizi n Tichka pass into Marrakech. Three days is quick for this distance, so the driving is honest and the stops are chosen to earn their place.

    Itinerary
3 Days Desert Marrakech Tour from Fes

    Day 1Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga

Early pickup in Fes, then the climb into the Middle Atlas past Ifrane and into the cedar forest at Azrou, where Barbary macaques gather along the road.

Lunch at Midelt on the high plateau, then the descent through the Tizi n Talghomt into the Ziz Valley, a long belt of date palms below bare cliffs, with a viewpoint above the gorge.

Arrival at Merzouga in the late afternoon. Leave your main luggage, take an overnight bag, and ride into Erg Chebbi by camel, reaching camp at sunset for dinner and drums under the tent.

Accommodation: Berber desert camp, Erg Chebbi

    Day 2Merzouga - Rissani - Erfoud - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley

Sunrise from the top of a dune, then back by camel for breakfast and a shower in Merzouga.

Heading west, you stop at Rissani and its covered souk, then Erfoud, where workshops cut and polish fossils from rock that was seabed 400 million years ago.

In the afternoon you reach Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise around 300 metres and the canyon narrows to a few paces. A walk on the valley floor is the best way to take it in.

A short drive on brings you to the Dades Valley, with its eroded rock towers, for the night.

Accommodation: Hotel or guesthouse in the Dades Valley

    Day 3Dades - Skoura - Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech

West along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, through El Kelaa des Mgouna, the rose town, and the Skoura palm oasis with Kasbah Amerhidil among the trees.

Lunch in Ouarzazate, with time for the Taourirt Kasbah, then Ait Ben Haddou, where you cross the riverbed and climb through the earthen ksar to the granary at the top.

The last stage crosses the High Atlas by the Tizi n Tichka pass at over 2260 metres, with viewpoints on the descent. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening.

    FAQ
Can the tour run from Marrakech to Fes instead?

Yes, in either direction and at the same price. Tell us where you want to start and finish.

Is three days enough for this crossing?

It is the shortest sensible version. The first and third days are long, roughly seven to eight hours with stops. The four-day version adds a full day at Merzouga and makes the whole thing easier.

What happens to our luggage during the camel trek?

It stays in the vehicle or at the Merzouga hotel. You take a small overnight bag to the camp and collect the rest the next morning.

    Is the camel ride compulsory?

No. A 4×4 can take you to the camp if you prefer, or if anyone has back trouble.

    What is the camp like?

Private tents with beds and blankets, a dining tent and shared washing facilities. Luxury camps with private bathrooms can be booked for a supplement.

    What should we pack?

Light clothes for the day, a warm layer for the desert night, closed shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a scarf for wind.

    Why Choose This Tour?

Flying or taking the train between Fes and Marrakech means skipping the entire south. This route uses the distance instead: the Middle Atlas, the Ziz palm groves, the dunes, the gorges and the kasbah road all sit on the line you were going to travel anyway.

Private vehicle and driver, one-way logistics handled, and your luggage carried the whole way.
